Following a nine-month stretch without a century, Kohli's performance in helping India chase down 290 against Australia was possibly the best of his adolescent career. Australia reached 289 thanks to half-centuries from Cameron White and Michael Hussey, and a century from Michael Clarke. In response, India was down to 35/2 as soon as Kohli left the pitch. Yuvraj Singh and he both scored 137 runs, but when Yuvraj was out with India still 118 runs behind, Kohli achieved his most resilient century to date in his brief career. Despite the setback of having to bat with a runner due to cramping, Kohli and Suresh Raina managed to score 84 runs without giving up. Even though Kohli eventually lost his life, he had helped India win.
