For Kohli, this century will always be special because it was his first of the competition. RCB was the guest of Gujarat Lions in the 19th game of the 2016 season. After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Kohli decided to provide his team with a strong start. As Shane Watson and Ab de Villiers failed to contribute as second fiddles, Kohli proceeded to bat from one end. Kohli had not yet found a reliable companion till KL Rahul arrived. With a strike rate of just over 158, Kohli hit an undefeated hundred of 63 balls while showcasing a broad range of strokes. RCB was 59-2 in eight overs at one stage. However, a run-fest in the final five overs, during which 65 runs were scored, enabled the visitors to reach 180. In just his third IPL game, KL Rahul contributed with a 35-ball 51. The 180 run goal was insufficient. With three balls remaining, Dinesh Karthik (39-ball 50) and Brendon McCullum (24-ball 42) got the Lions across the finish line. Even though Kohli's century came in a losing effort, the Player of the Match title was rightfully his.
